The charts below illustrate the various graphic and design file types that Emblemtek will accept for artwork and production purposes. Certain files types are preferred as noted, and in some cases specific, lesser used file types may not perform well due to exporting and/or version mismatches or errors. The most commonly used files are CDR, JPG and DST. For security purposes Text (.TXT) and Executable (.EXE) files will not be accepted, nor will files over 4 megabytes in size. Emblemtek’s artwork approval graphics are usually presented in JPG format, and embroidery stitch files transmitted to customers are delivered in DST format.
Vector files: To create artwork for embroidered or printed designs, vector files are preferred as they allow for easy manipulation of design components, dimensions, shapes and colours. As an exact representation of the original design, vector line-art graphics do not require re-tracing, and can be re-scaled with no impact on image quality. Presentation and production-ready artwork can be reproduced in the shortest amount of time, with or without related pricing.
Bitmap files: Unlike vector graphic files which are made of precise line-art objects, bitmap images are collections of individual graphic pixels, rated by resolution as dots per inch (dpi). The higher the resolution, the more dots there are per inch, and the higher the image quality will be. To create artwork for embroidered or printed designs, bitmap files must be retraced in order to manipulate, re-scale and colour the design. When low resolution bitmap files are provided (less than 150dpi), it takes more time to re-create the image for presentation and production purposes. Re-tracing can be very time consuming, and there may be small variations in the actual details of the design.
